NASA Occupational Health is engaged in an electronic health record system (EHRS) project,
in an effort to improve the longitudinal understanding of the health status of the workforce.
This undertaking is consistent with the vision and goals of similar Federal e-Government initiatives
intent on enhancing the efficacy of healthcare information management. NASA’s Occupational Health
EHRS will replace traditional management of medical records and once fully deployed will provide NASA the ability to
- facilitate ‘real-time’ identification of critical health issues;
- decrease the likelihood of medical errors occurring;
- assess the effectiveness of health promotion programs; and,
- advance standardization and collaboration between clinics.
The EHRS project is a major initiative of the Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer (OCHMO).
An Agency Task Force, a collaborative group of diverse professionals comprised of individuals from each
of NASA’s fourteen centers and facilities, delivers considerable attention to the many complex issues
inherent in a successful EHRS. The EHRS Task Force resources are invaluable when assisting with development
and deployment challenges and advancing the adoption of the EHRS throughout the Agency. NASA’s Occupational
Health EHRS Project is orchestrating an Agency-wide system capable of standardizing an improved level of
health care for all employees.
