About Hazard Communications
The purpose of a Hazard Communication Program to inform employees of chemical hazards they may be exposed to in the workplace under normal conditions of use, or in a foreseeable emergency. For NASA center resources in the area of hazard communication go to the NASA Center resources page. Below is a listing of some of the hazard communication resources that are available to you.
Programs and Resources
  • Chemwatch
A database of 40,000 independently researched MSDSs with a depth of information. This service has been paid for by the NASA Agency OH office, if you need the User ID and password, please contact the NASA OH Support Office.
  • Kennedy Space Center MSDS Database
MSDS for materials used at KSC/CCAS. This index searches only the 37,500+ chemicals in the KSC/CCAS MSDS database. If you can't find an MSDS you need please check the frequently asked questions.
  • Lab Chemical Safety Summaries
These summaries are from the new edition of Prudent Practices. The LCSS provide concise critical discussions of the toxicity, flammability, reactivity, and explosibility of 88 chemicals commonly used in scientific research laboratories. Directions for handling, storage, and disposal and special instructions for first aid and emergency response are given.
  • Micromedix Tomes Plus
Tomes Plus is an extensive collection of proprietary and licensed databases (12 databases) expertly assembled to give quick, easy access to medical, hazard, and environmental information vital to the safe management and handling of chemicals. This service has been paid for by the NASA Agency OH office, if you need the User ID and password, please contact the NASA OH Support Office.
  • MSDS-Search
A site that lists a collection of links to MSDS databases that are not fee based.
  • National Toxicology Program
The NTP evaluates agents of public health concern. To research a substance select "Testing Status of Agents at NTP", enter the chemical name or CAS number to get the testing status.
  • NIOSH International Chemical Safety Cards (ICSC)
An ICSC summarizes essential health and safety information on chemicals for their use at the "shop floor" level by workers and employers in factories, agriculture, construction and other work places.
  • OSHA Hazard Communication
OSHA's main Hazard Communication Site which highlights information about the standards, compliance assistance, enforcement of MSDS requirement, the globally harmonized systems, and much more.
  • Oxford University MSDSs
A large MSDS database . This is not an official Oxford University web site; these web pages are provided as a service to members of the Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory at Oxford.
  • US EPA Chemical Substance Reference Search
Envirofacts Master Chemical Integrator (EMCI)allows you to search the full text of information offered by EMCI. Use the EMCI Query Form to perform chemical name and CAS number searches against chemicals that are monitored by EPA's Major Program Systems (AFS, PCS, RCRIS and TRIS).
  • Vermont SIRI MSDSs
An MSDS database provided by the Vermont Safety Information Resources Inc.
